In a work session on Sept. 25, the Lone Tree school board received updated cost estimates for renovating the south entrance to the gym. The new price – $655,000.
“While it is going to be a little more than we thought, if it looks like that, wow!” Superintendent Ken Crawford said.
Earlier estimates from the architect were $500,000 to $535,000.
Crawford laid out a timeline for the project. Sealed bids would be opened on Oct. 29, and a public hearing would be held on Nov. 13. Bid drawings will be released Oct. 7.
Crawford said the district would apply for a $200,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to help with the cost.
He said the new entrance would improve handicap access, safety and security.
A group of school officials met with architects and engineers on Sept. 11 to review the plans.
A number of items were removed from the project to lower costs. Those included a second-floor balcony and gym window, trophy cases and associated lighting and landscaping.
