The kids and the chicks

4-H members Caedyn and Adelyn Huston of Wellman are excited to participate in the standardized production broiler class as first year members in 4-H. Their parents are Michael and Sarah Huston.

The chicks are here, which means fair is near.

The Washington County Extension office housed 192 chicks the afternoon of May 29 for the standardized production broiler class.

The 4-H’ers enrolled in this class purchase and raise a dozen chicks, then bring the three most similar and best in weight to compete at the fair in July.

These chicks were hatched and delivered to 4-H’ers within a 24-hour time frame.

Washington County 4-H’ers, club leaders, volunteers and Extension staff are busy preparing for the Washington County Fair with project preparations, livestock workouts, and registration deadlines.
